But my eyes don’t want to!

The Boy has discovered a new way of trying to manipulate us. He no longer asks for things, he simply states that his “____” (insert body part here) wants to “______” (insert request). It’s actually difficult not to laugh, but he’s being completely serious, and only persists until you answer him.

Here’s some examples:

“Mama, my shoulder wants a snack”

“Mama, my bum wants to watch a movie”

“Mama, I think my tummy wants you to play that matching game on the computer”

And then when I tell him no, not right now, or any other answer than YES, his response is “but my shoulder really wants to!”

He’s also having a hard time with understanding when we simply don’t have something that he wants. He pleads with us, expecting us to somehow make what he wants appear.

On the way home from vacation, in the van…

The Boy: “Mama, I need that racecar that we have at home.”

Me: “Oh, ok, well we can get it when we get home, we didn’t bring it with us.”

The Boy (whining): “But I really need it!”

Me: “Well I’m sorry, Son, I just don’t have it here, it’s at home right now.”

The Boy (crying): “But I waaaannntt it….I need to play with it!!”

This has to be one of the most frustrating series of conversations we have. He just doesn’t seem to get it when we don’t have something, it just doesn’t matter to him, he just wants what he wants and he wants it now.

And in other news, we’re back. Vacation in the Okanagan was wonderful! I’ll post pictures later, I’m still trying to catch up on my housecleaning/laundry, etc. (I’ll probably be doing that for a while…maybe…the rest of my life?)
